Hello everyone, it's great to see you here. I've always believed that language is more than just a tool for communication; it carries a culture's memories, emotions, and values. Through language, we discover not only new people but also new selves. I'm a Chinese-Filipino, born and raised in Manila. My father is from China, my mother is from the Philippines, so I grew up surrounded by two distinct yet harmoniously coexisting cultures. From a young age, I was surrounded by multiple languages: English at school, Tagalog in daily life, and a little Chinese at home. Over time, English and Tagalog became my strongest languages, while my Mandarin remained distant, like a voice I could understand but not fully respond to. Now that I'm in the United States, I'm increasingly eager to reconnect with that part of myself. My father's culture, his stories, and the language that shaped his world—all of these are like a bridge I want to cross. I plan to visit his hometown in China one day, not just as a tourist, but as someone who truly understands the meaning of every word there. That's why I'm here. I want to improve my Mandarin. Not only academically, but also emotionally, through genuine exchanges with those who deeply understand Filipino culture. In return, I'm more than happy to help others practice their English or Tagalog and share the warmth, humor, and kindness of Filipino culture. I am a native Chinese speaker fluent in both Mandarin and Taiwanese. Other than my mother tongues, I am also fluent in English thanks to having lived in the US for more than 40 years. I'd like to keep my brain busy with language learning. I have reading proficiency in Japanese but mediocre level of listening and speaking. The same can be said about my Spanish, although it is at a lower level than my Japanese. I took on learning French during the Pandemia and know the 95% of the basics in the French language. That may help me rip off the tag of beginner. But my French is at the bottom of the intermediate level. It definitely needs a lot of work. If you are fluent in any of my target language and interested in improving your Chinese or English, we can try out partnership for language exchange. I am looking forward to it.
